About

British Soldier (David Hubber)

As a professional Soldier and a very amateur web designer, it only seemed right to combine the two. Under unfortunate circumstances the two came together to produce this site.

About the website

• The site is a site dedicated to the fallen personnel of the UK Armed forces.
• Initially the site was put together for the fallen of Afghanistan. I then felt that it should be extended to encompass those who fell in Iraq and other places around the world as a result of conflict.
• In time this may extend back further to conflicts such as Bosnia and the Falklands.

Why did I create this website?

• Whilst in Kuwait early 2000’s I attempted web design for the first time in the little bit of spare time I had. I became an award winner for my efforts.
• I realised that I was able to do a tiny bit of web design and also that I may, potentially, do something to help those who have lost someone close to them.
• The site came together purely because I was aware that even though there are plenty of sites similar, mine is purely dedicated (nothing other than topics related to the fallen).
• The site was initially created about five years ago. I realised that, unfortunately & with the high casualty rate, my initial design was inadequate. I asked for inspiration and help; Mr Gus Goodall came to my assistance via twitter. Gus is a former lead web developer for the Army & soldier. He is now also my friend.
• Gus is assisting in getting the site recognition so that other people around the world can leave their respects and comments for the fallen.

Feedback

“In tribute to those young men who gave that we may be free – from wars in the past until now.
These young men here were sons, brothers, grandsons, husbands, partners, fathers. May their memories live on as a lesson for the future. God Bless xx”

• My military colleagues like the site. Under unfortunate circumstances, what can one say? People can’t directly say how good they think the site is due to the nature of the content. So, treading on egg shells, they portray their respect for the site with courtesy.
If you would like to express your approval or make a general comment, please feel free to leave your thoughts/ comments or feedback.

Am I looking for any assistance with the site?

Yes! People have requested wristbands, banners, car stickers and other items to show that they approve of & support the site. This unfortunately cannot be done because I run the site independently and can’t afford to do it.
• I’m looking for a sponsor or sponsors to aid with minor funding. Also anybody that can advise & help out on setting up a charity to aid the families of these fallen heroes.
• I’m also looking for a celebrity patron(s) to help to promote the site (& potentially the charity).
• If you would like to help to fund the site, please visit the ‘support’ page or if you would like to get in touch, please Email me.

A little about me

Glazier, Sign Writer and Agricultural Designer are a few jobs that I felt the need to pursue, (not for long), until I decided to serve with Her Majesty’s Armed Forces (Army). I have served now for nearly 22 years, doing various jobs, within the logistic trade, in a multitude of countries & regions.

I have been web designing, in its lowest capacity, since 2005 and am an award winner for my efforts.

In the current years I have deployed with the Military seven times to various hostile/ semi-hostile areas. I’ve carried on despite hardships and trauma, unlike the ‘Fallen’, (to whom this site is dedicated), who are no longer able to.

Though strange under the circumstances, I am  a practicing Mahayana Buddhist of the New Kadampa Tradition.

I was born in Akrotiri (Cyprus) in February 1972.

I live in Germany and work all over the world.
